I walk along a winding dirt path with the children and our footsteps create a scrunch, crunch, sound that keeps rhythm with the bird songs and scuffle of squirrels in the trees. A plane flies overhead, and the children’s gaze turns upwards in curiosity and wonder.  How often does the educator slow down enough to really listen to the sounds created in the outdoors and those created by the more than human world versus those created by the human world?

In this interactive workshop, participants will examine how soundscapes in outdoor settings allow for discovery and learning. Diverse outdoor settings, whether urban and rural, provide a richness of sound to explore with young children.
