About the Magazine
A Message from Beverlie Dietze
The Play Outdoors Magazine: Exploring Outdoor Experiences in Early Learning was first published in March 2021. It was a new adventure for me, for our team, and for many of our contributors. We have truly enjoyed the challenge of creating a magazine that illustrates the importance of outdoor play for children of all ages and diversities in their play.
I would like to extend a sincere thank you to our readers and advertisers for having the confidence in us to explore this resource. We look forward to continuing to provide a place to share stories and to contribute to our collective learning about outdoor play.
The Team
Gretchen Kelbaugh
COPY EDITOR
Gretchen Kelbaugh retired early from teaching science to raise three children and study writing (BA in English, Honours, University of New Brunswick). Her keen interest in grammar and punctuation, and a course in Expository English, put her in good stead for a lifetime of writing and editing. She strives for the three Cs: be clear, concise and coherent.
Gretchen published two books, including a multiple-award-winning children’s book, Lollipopsicles. This prompted the CAMH to commission her to write two books for young children. Along the way, Gretchen studied screenwriting and journalism, writing for CBC radio and her provincial newspaper. She continues to edit for screen and print.
Sheila McGlashan
Advertising and Circulation
Sheila brings a unique combination of experience to our team. She is responsible to bringing quality advertising to our publication ensuring it aligns with our philosophy. Having worked in the corporate world in marketing and sales responsible for advertising dollars and return on investment, as well as selling advertising, she brings a key perspective to our magazine. Sheila has facilitated marketing and sales training to various sized companies as well as in an academic environment. Sheila is a mother of three believing strongly in the importance of outdoor play and the value that Play Outdoors Magazine content brings to readers.
